I have written a story about why it is harder to find water than soft drinks in Mexico. It truly is, and it seems unusual to me. But today, I’m going to tell you about Jarritos, the popular Mexican brand of soft drinks known for its various fruit-flavored sodas: Manzana, Tutifruti, Tamarindo, Limon, Piña, Mandarina, and so forth. I also asked my Mexican friend, and he recommended trying Jarritos.

And yes, I finally had Jarritos Tamarindo after living here for three years and counting. I chose it to accompany my mouthwatering tacos. (It’s not sponsored, but I’m open to that.)

Before I tell you about the taste, let me explain this soft drink. The name “Jarritos” comes from the Spanish word “Jarrito”, which means “little jug” or “small jar”, evoking a sense of homeliness and tradition. Also, the fruit illustrations on the bottle represent Mexico’s rich fruit diversity.

The reddish-brown color and the smell of tamarind beckoned me to try it. As I sipped the drink, a delightful balance of sweet and sour flavors danced on my palate, complemented by a subtle fruity and earthy undertone that made the experience truly unique. To be frank, I love it. Yet, I am still not into soda. I know it gives a fresh flavor, but I don’t like the aftertaste, which leads to burping and gas flying through my nose…
